Back on the bike
« on: March 13, 2013, 04:37:30 PM »
After about 12 years off the bike, I have just started riding again and have done a couple of laps around Lysterfield over the past couple of weeks. Loved it so much that I have just become a member.

Will try and get out on the Tuesday night rides in the next couple of weeks.

Welcome Cranky.

The first few weeks back on two wheels after a long break are fantastic.

Fantastic??? The first 2 weeks are *!! Then it starts to get better....slowly.

Once your legs, heart and lungs catch up a bit it improves from there.

Great work getting back on the bike tho! Once you get the feel back you'll be loving it in no time.

Cheers,

Dregs

Fantastic??? The first 2 weeks are *!! Then it starts to get better....slowly.

I had a 25 year hiatus and became a professional couch potato (Olympic Level)

By the end of the 1st week I had so much energy I was getting up before 5am and going for a ride. My wife and kids thought I was on drugs.

Nowadays if I don't ride for 3 days in a row they pretty much push me out of the house.

After the 1st few weeks you have to work much harder to get the same kick.

Luckily I have some fitness from other sports.

My problem when I did a lap last Saturday was that I am overconfident for my current skill level.  In my mind I think I can ride like I use too.  Was overcooking quite a few corners on the downhills. Came way too close to some trees.

Have to say the trails at Lysty are great.  Massive improvement from when I use to ride around there in the 90's.
