Title: Short notice social rides.
Post by: lard on December 26, 2011, 10:57:55 AM
I thought I'd start a thread were we can put all the short notice social rides.

I'll start with tomorrow, Tuesday the 27th,  8:30am at the horswood 24hr carpark.   Just a quick 1.5hr ride before meeting Andy at 10am for trail building.

Can't remember the crash, it was on Hug, heading towards Trailmix just after the fire road before the boadwalk.  Strava said I was only doing ~18km/h and it isnt technical maybe I slid on the gravel like the other week with Tone, don't know?  Appartantly a nice fellow on a Kona stopped and helped until Chris got back, thanks mate.  Was like waking up from a dream and couldn't remember a thing for the next half hour or so, didn't even know I had been riding with Chris.  Walked back to the top carpark, no KOM there.  So now have 1 black eye, gravel rash all down the left side of my face and neck, ouchy bits on my arms and legs and a really sore back and head.

Car is still parked at Hallam North, hoefully no one has spay painted * and balls on it.

Weird - you are right, there is not much on that section. Hopefully it will all come back to you soon.

And its probably too late for your car....  ;D

That's pretty scarey Will,  we've all ridden around there 100s of times and to knock yourself out is a worry.  Was it over that little log drop?

Hey you got 3 cups and a PR on the ride, nice work! :)

Post by: Will on January 05, 2012, 01:28:43 PM
Yeah, it was going well. Not far past the fire road, no drop off.  I need to have another look, but I think either gravel or hit my pedal and didn't see it coming?

No, apparantly the factory is back from Chinese new year today so they are hoping they will be able to look at it soon.  I would have thouht they'd be sick of looking by now given that it's been cracked since before Christmas.  Mind you it's only two weeks until Valentines day, so given that it's an Italian company I expect that they will need two weeks to prepare for that and another two weeks to celebrate it.  Sooooo, I expect that in approximately 4 weeks time they will advise me that they need to send the frame from its current home in Sydney to somewhere else.  I really should stop being so unreasonable it did only cost $4k.

Also whats the best way to ride around the Youies?
Title: Re: Short notice social rides.
Post by: Dregs on February 23, 2012, 08:36:32 PM
Depends on what you like. The Kurrajong stuff is open and fast with a few smaller (and bigger) jumps. You can pin it and it's almost totally flat. On the other Stockyards side it's almost the opposite. Lotsa rocks, steep climbs and gnar downhills.

I like to start at Stockyards, yack up the hill (right from the carpark entry) then get into the fun stuff and come back down the bottom of the DH area, turn back up the hill and climb back up the ridge. Then you can go over the top and back down to the Kurrajong area, pin a lap of that then suffer your way back over the hill. Once you are back up to the top you can treat yourself to the DH run of your choice (they REALLY mean it when they say double black at the Youies - be warned). From the bottom of the DH you can do the tails back to the carpark or extend to the last bit on the eastern side and back to the carpark. It's about 30km all up and pretty hard. Be aware it gets HOT out there on a hot day. Take plenty of water.

I tend to flat a bit in the Youies thanks to the speed and rocks. Take enough tubes. I'd make sure you take a mate to scape you up if you come off too. Youies is fun and pretty safe if you take it easy but you can get yourself in trouble if you go to hard and don't learn the trails.

Get these if you haven't already. They really help. It's a bit of a maze out there. http://www.youyangsmtbinc.com.au/maps.html

Cheers,

Dregs

Monday Morning Short Notice EPIC!!!

Me and my mate George are riding from my place in Glen Waverley to Lysty, then to Beaconsfield Dallas Brook scout camp to do a loop, then back again.  You're welcome to join us for any or all of the ride if you want,  it'll be ~80ish K all up.  Or 60K if you go from Lysty.

Leaving Glen Waverley at 8am (PM me if you want the address).
We'll stop at the TOP carpark of Lysty at around 9am.
We'll stop at the BOTTOM carpark of Lysty at around 9:30am.
Then we're off to Beacy, maybe get there at 11ish?

Is anyone keen?

Our Epic was Epic!
My phone battery died while recording and strava now won't load so no strava details yet. Georges trusty bike computer said 89k, 4.5hrs ride time, 18kph average. My legs feel like it was about 1500-1800m of climbing.

We rode into the back gate of Churchill and up to the top carpark, then down hug/blair to trailmix, then out to the main road and boundary road across to Beaconsfield.
Did a lap of beacy, it's barely riden over there, trails and buried under leaves, but otherwise still fun, and still hard work.   On the way back we had to do a little hike-a-bike as the 'shortcut' we chose was so steep and rutted out it was unridable. We had a nice tailwind down abecketts rd hitting 70kph....Weeeeeeeee :)   Once back to Lysty I was feeling silly so we went on to complete the lap of lysty, up through buckle, middle redgum, comm games hill, then out the back gate and home.  Tad knackered now :)

A garmin would be nice,  not cheap tho, especially for the one with mapping etc.  I might just get a spare battery for my phone which is about $20.

Nice! Hey, do you want the rack out the back of mine? The bit that stands vertical to hang the bikes over the tailgate? It's seen better days but has got a few more goes in it yet, and would serve well as a template if you want to make a new one.

I made Mk.2 on Anzac day, this one lets me get the big tool box in the back as well as 5 bikes. I'll give you the run down on it next time we catch up. Might have to patent it.

Martin - cheers mate. Not pushing, just checking.

Is this beaconsfield tasmania ? Are the trails underground ?

Only joking  ;D

What kind of fitness is required ? And would I need to put the bike in the back of the rodeo or can you get there by non dirt road , can you get there in a car ?

Title: Re: Short notice social rides.
Post by: Streetsahead on April 27, 2012, 11:26:47 PM
im cant say about fitness as i have never ridden there but i would say its about the same as listy, and everyone is always happy to wait/ slow down if needed so dont worry to much about that.

and i believe its off a dirt road but noting a car cant handle.

Be interesting to hear how you find it Streets, I quite enjoy it for something different. Much more technical in places than Lysty, can be a real challenge to get around without dabbing.

I had a slow speed OTB there last week.

First trip to Upper Beakie and had a great time. Started out feeling pretty unfit but got into the swing of things. Trails are pretty cool mix of short climbs and fun descents mixed in with some smaller drops, tech rock sections and rooty sections. Lots of fun but the climbs are short and pinchy. We did the two separate loops and I got about a 10km total off the GPS in just over an hour. There is a nice DH run in the middle of the first loop with some reasonable sized gaps and jumps for those who like to go big. Trails hold up well to the wet weather too.

I also found an exciting way of sliding off a large boulder and falling 5ft of so to the (thankfully dry!) creek bed below! Thankfully walked away with bike unscathed and ego only slightly bruised. There's something surreal about watching your bike cartwheel off the edge of a small cliff and knowing that you are about to follow it 1/2 a second or so behind! Thankfully that got me g'd up to try a few more A-lines that I did nail, so balance in the universe was restored!

Thanks to Oli and Woodie for the ride.

Cheers,

Dregs

Due to the rain and the MTB trails closed, Saturday mornings ride will be linking 20+kms worth of fire trails. Still finishing at 8.30 for a nice hot latte at Trailmix.

As much as the the Bureau can predict, no rain if forecast for Sat morning. Although, the Bureau's forecast for today was 'area's of rain'. Does the whole state count as an area?

Either start up at Welly rd Car park, or meet at Logans & Lamberts junction.

Also check out the Sugarloaf ride, for those with a bit more time on Saturday.

Interested, haven't ridden much so fire roads are appealing. Should be there, but will confirm as its no fun waiting around in the rain for someone.

Great ride this morning. 30kms of fire trails.
5 degrees and the start, 6 degrees at the end. That trailmix coffee has never been so good.
Good call on closing the MTB trails, there is so much water. Lots of rivers flowing over the fire trails, and some massive puddles.

Cheers Andrew, Will, Daz, Ian and the tag along guy who didn't know the trails were closed.

Hi Ian
I can do a "Sunday fire roads tour" if you're around.

8.30 or 9.00am start, might be a bit crusty after friends at dinner on Saturday, but a ride is the best way to un-crust  :)

Starting tomorrow is the Strava Rapha Rising challenge. http://app.strava.com/challenges/rapha-rising-circle-of-death

6881m in 7 days.... As crazy as that sounds i'm going to try and give it a crack.

I'll be doing hill repeats on my road bike from the Basin up to Sassafras (aka the 1/20) from 9:00am tomorrow for as long as my legs will allow me. I'm thinking I will be able to handle maybe 5 climbs, so around 1400m total

I'll be starting from the Pinnacle bike shop at 9:00am.

Here is the segment : http://app.strava.com/challenges/rapha-rising-circle-of-death

If anyone else wants to tag along you are more than welcome to do the whole ride with me or as little of it lol

Yeah Sunday morning is cool for me, I start work at 1 so I will have to be finished riding by about 11:30 so I can get home and clean me and the bike before work

So anyone keen for a Wellington road meet up at 8:30 - which will give us plenty of time for riding and a nice hot coffee

8.30 is good. Whereabouts on Wellington Road?

Hey mate,

I might swing by, but if I'm not there don't wait.  I have to be home by 9:45 so depending on how I feel I might ride over do half a lap with you guys and head for home.  The weather forecast looks clear.

Jackie, the carpark is on top of a crest with gates on both sides of Welly Road.  Probably a couple of km's past the corner of Lysterfield & Wellington Roads if you're coming from the city side.

Cheers.

I have a feeling someone doesn't like us,  a guy who never has a nice thing to say and has copped heaps from other forum members perhaps?  I've been trying to hand out karma to get ppl back to positive but it seems he's pretty persistent.

Shouldn't the forum software log who has done this?

What's this Karma thing?  Your posts just prompted me to look at mine.  Why is it negative, all I have posted is about rides, no discussions, debates or anything at all even remotely controversial.

Ian - talking about not being liked - I bet Casey is copping a trashing in forums world wide over that last overtake?

Sure it's not a bug in the web/forum software?
Title: Re: Short notice social rides.
Post by: Matt on July 16, 2012, 11:11:26 AM
Mine's gone from 0 to -2 - I suggested getting rid of karma the other night, so maybe it has launched a pre-emptive strike.
Title: Re: Short notice social rides.
Post by: Numbnuts on July 16, 2012, 11:21:25 AM
The whole karma thing's only a bit of fun I suppose, but it's a bit sad if it's just one individual going out of there way to reduce peoples. What's the point?

Takes all sorts I suppose. Some people are just plain weird.

Yeah I can live with that,  :)

But -11 in under a week is a great effort even for a spanner like me ::)

MMMM. maybe stop pulling over your mates ::) ::) ::)

I rode Beacy last weekend with the Epic guys. I wouldn't recommend riding them at the moment as they are too muddy and it is causing too much damage. To be honest I wish we hadn't of ridden them, and I'm not just saying that cause I was unfit and it was tough lol =).

Officer was in good condition though, I would recommend riding there or sugarloaf reservoir, or buxton.

Tone,

Between Lactic Acid, Trav's Diamond and Boulder there is no shortage of challenge and entertainment.

I'll make sure to let you know next time we are heading up again.

We should consider an LDTR social day at the Youies. Between Stockyards and Currajong we should be able to entertain all skill levels and riding styles

I know where the Horswood rd (right at the roundabout) carpark, and Comms Game carpark are located. But not the Wellington Rd one.

Thanks..!!

It's here,

it's pretty small, but there's usully room for 4 or 5 cars.

Carbon, its exactly 3kms ride straight up Logans. Pretty easy ride if you are parking at Horswood. If you are driving, its about 500 metres from the junction of Lysty & Welly rd's.

I had a look on www.nearmap.com (http://www.nearmap.com) which has good recent high resolution aircraft images. And, I did notice it links up to the Horswood carpark. I might have a pedal up there after I drop my Partner off for her MTB course tomorrow. There is a little bit of exploring to be done in the three hours I have to wait.

But it all sort of depends on how my shoulder behaves. I'm hoping it will be strong enough to deal with riding again.

Looks like the boys are heading north of Welly rd. There are a few big hills over there to climb. The down's are pretty tame though.

I wonder what Trailmix will use for the MTB skills, as all the MTB trails are technically closed.

It depends on the level of skills, I've seen them just use witches hats on the grass out the front of the shop,  or use the berms out the back of the shop.

Where are you heading out from Mike? I was planning to meet up with Jeremy at Horswood at 1800 on Thursday.

Oh and just to encourage the usual suspects I will be bringing the 29er   :-))

I'll see you there Alf, I'll teach you the secret 29er club hand shake.

Excellent. I'll make sure I have my gloves with me  ;D

Just getting this thread back on track, like a derailled train, good fun ride last night (Wednesday 21th), met up with Lard (Dave) hope I didnt hold you up too much on the single speed.

Note to others, steel rigid forks are not much fun on the rocky berms of the CGT  :o, some very interesting lines were taken.

Thanks for letting me join your crew last night Cam,  good ride, and you definitely didn't hold me up, the pace was pretty much what we do on Tuesday nights,  social and fun with plenty of breaks for smack talk  :)

Title: Mount Donna Buang
Post by: IIITAK3NIII on November 30, 2012, 04:47:15 PM
I'm going for a road ride up mount Donna Buang this Sunday at 8:00am leaving from the Home hotel in launching place with a few teammates of mine. (4 of us in total)

If anyone has ever wanted to conquer this iconic climb and wanted to do it with someone feel free to come along!

Some stats about the ride:

Length of climb: 16.8km
Overall ride distance: ~60km
Average gradient of climb: 6.4%
Elevation gain of climb: 1,069m

It should be a tough yet awarding climb.

We will be riding at a reasonable pace. If you can currently climb the 1:20 in around 20-25 minutes you will be fit enough to come along.

If you do decide to come along make sure you bring warm clothing as it is apparently easy to get really cold descending.

Let me know if you keen so we know to wait for you!

*This is not an official LDTR ride and you enter it at your own risk.

Hi All,
Are there any beginner - intermediate riders that head out on Monday nights?
I've recently purchased a new mtb & keen to hit the trails after work.
I've only riden at Lysterfield a handful of times but absolutely love it & would like to get out there a lot more.

Hi Jessica,
Welcome to MTBing and LDTR in particular!
i think that Trailmix have started having their Chix ride on Monday nights again.
The usual club rides are on Tuesday night and the first Sunday of each month, but if you hang around on the forum enough you'll find people out most nights of the week over summer.
enjoy :)

Interesting morning - met up with Wayne and headed off with Nick and his mates with Brossie.
1 Broken chain on Buckle - not a good start.
Nick suggests Brossie and I and Wayne head off as they will be have a slow one.

Brossie pulls the in pin after  an hour or so not feeling too flash.

Catch up with Nick back at the cars and they've had a broken collar bone and a collapsed wheel.

Will - you made the right choice staying tucked up in bed.

Yeah, I came across this guy as he was still lying KO'd face first on the board walk with his bike upside down a few metres away. Two other guys had already found him lying there and were calling the Ambos. His face was a mess and he had no idea what happened.

Hey there Tim,

Our little group will be heading off from Mahogany carpark around 6ish. Might see you on the trails.

What will you be riding?

Also, is the North end of the park open yet (Middle and upper buckle, follow me, IMBA etc)? I noticed on Sunday there were some riders up there through strava gps traces.

How was the ride lard

Pretty good, although a tad damp.  After sitting at a cafe in Warrandyte for 20mins waiting for the rain to stop, the guy that runs the ride decided to cut it short and we headed home.

http://app.strava.com/activities/32561301

Still a decent ride, and my legs had nothing left by the time I got back.   Also descending steep roads in the wet on a roadie sux,  no offs, but certainly no fun.

Did you manage to get out for a ride?

Riding wombat track on friday morning, not sure exactly what time but will be 9:30 ish.
What to take - dually or hardtail?
Title: Re: Short notice social rides.
Post by: Dregs on December 27, 2012, 07:37:45 PM
Either would be fine. It's a pretty flat track but with some really fun swoopy stuff in the areas closest to the car park. The tech sections and most descents (short as they are!) will be more more fun with your dually but it will be faster and easier on the flatter sections with a hardtail. I always take my dually for the fun stuff. There are a couple of sections you can really open 'er up at Wombat too.

If you get a chance tonight, see if you can find the 'less official' pine forest stuff heading back toward the main road. It's seriously good for a blast but I've only ridden it one way. Once you get to the main road there is more back to town (so you can do a monster loop) but it was pretty chewed up by moto's last time we were there. The stuff closer to town isn't as good at the main MTB trails. I have a GPS file somewhere with all that (I think it's on Strava too) if you are interested. The main loop is plenty of fun on it's own tho.

Wombat is awesome so ENJOY. The brew pub in Woodend is decent and the bakery at the 'other' end of town is also good.

Cheers,

Dregs

Hi Roger.

I will be leaving Rowville 5am  ??? Got to pick up Dave in Ringwood and then make the 9 am shuttle....

Will be doing Copperhead and then make our way to stonefly...fitness required is above average ( not sure why I am doing this ) I would estimate ride time of 4-5 hours. Climb to top of stonefly is a killer took us a full hour last time and was spent on the top...then descend Delatite river spur trail. 12 kilometers of fast open fire road descent.

PM me if you are keen wit your phone details so we can discuss....

Yeh you can just do the lifts and as fun as it sounds don't have the full face helmet to do all the downhill trails.

All the Am trails are ride up then enjoy the decent. Looking at the map right hand side trails..

Also want to go down Delatite river trail. Nice 12k descent.

I'm doing buller on saturday morning (convenient side excursion from a family camping trip). Was going to do the chairlift, but have decided to do this route instead:

http://app.strava.com/activities/34691765

My only question is how do you link copperhead and stonefly? Is it just obvious once you get there?

Hi al,

IMO copperhead isn't in good nick and not the best warmup.... But if does make sense as the shuttle takes you right there! From the bottom of copperhead (before you pass under the lift) there will be a 2wd track on your right. The new home trail goes right up this track and climbs along copperhead before it hooks up left on its way to gang gangs. (The ride olly and the crew did on Sunday we went left and had to climb the road for a bit before we got onto snowgums)

You then hook on to gang Gangs, left down split rock to the skills park, then you climb corn hill and rock down silk lane to howqua gap, make sure to get the sweet bit of ST on silk lane which hooks LEFT off the 4WD track! There is a track the hooks right just before but don't be suckered in by it as its the climb track.

From how qua gap it's easy to find stonefly, this is a good place to have a snack and make sure your bottles are full! After stonefly you travel down circuit rd to river spur trail, this is still a bit tacky so you can let loose at bit;) then on to delatite trail and home to mirimbah!!!

My suggestion is to get dropped off at the village and start gang gangs from the start, it's a much better warm up IMO. But I understand the lure of Australia's only true flow down trail,

Any other questions?

Thanks Ben , thats really helpful. I've traced your directions on the map and it all appears to make sense. Will probably just end up doing copperhead just to see what all the fuss is about. I have steeled myself for the disappointment, so it can only exceed my expectations ;D

Copperhead doesn't go under the lift Ben, it only meets the lift at the bottom.

It was riding really well on the 26th but every day it got worse and worse. Lots of braking bumps going into the berms, just let go and lean.
My last run was the on 31th so can't comment on its current state.

Do copperhead, it's fast and fun.
I was on a downy but have had just as much fun on my AM bike.
You should ride it to the bottom as the bottom section is great and not as washed out.
Catch 22 though if you go to the bottom, You will have to peddle up the road for a bit (which sucks) to link back onto the new home trail Ben mentioned then keep going as he said.

So I had a great time in the end. Copperhead was great, even with the brake ruts. Stonefly was a killer and if I ever entertain any crazy thoughts of dropping the granny upfront then I'll just remember that climb.... the downhill made it all worth it though, totally shreds all the way down. The descent back to mirimbah was the icing on the cake, epic is really the only word when you're flying down the side of the delatite and all those cool log river crossings. For next time, I will be

1. Actually fitting the chain device which has been sitting on my workbench for the last 12 months...
2. Factoring in that I will have to climb for another few KMs after finishing stonefly to get onto the delatite river trail
3. Not going on a day when its 30 odd degrees. ;D

Good ride - Leo came along too and left Nick and me (mostly me) for dead on the climbs.
GPS said 28ish km and 900m climbing.
Took the enduro, but it would have been easily achievable on a hardtail. The climb back up Old Kinglake Road is pretty gentle, but be aware that people seem to use that as a DH (didin't see anyone trying to climb Mt Jerusalem track...)
The descents are a lot of fun, plenty of opportunity for line selection and a few surprises if you're barreling along with some speed :)

I was thinking of doing this? but I might be biting off a little more than I can chew.

http://www.aboc.com.au/maps-and-race-courses/mt-dandenong-the-crucifix

I would love to do the kinglake ride, up Hurstbridge - kinglake road and back down. It would be around 86km if we leave from croydon (near luther college). I'll be riding there so it will be roughly 100km for me in total.

Here is the proposed route (roughly)

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/185086986

Here is the segment of the main kinglake climb.

http://app.strava.com/segments/635888

Bear in mind you are a far better climber than myself so you may have to be waiting a while at the tops of some of those peaks =P

Otherwise I am up for Beach road loop, or mount donna buang.

Haven't been out at the park in a couple of weeks and are looking to have a bit of a night blast on Wednesday evening.

Which parts of the park are open, and whats the condition of the open sections?

Thanks,

If anyone is keen I'm going to try out a ride that I found in a book called 'Where to Ride'.
It's a 30km loop starting at Silvan Reservoir, through Kalorama, down into The Basin and the back up via Olinda. 1127m climbing in the 30km.
The book says its mostly unpaved road with a bit of single track in there for good measure.
I plan to set off about 10am from Silvan Res and see how I go.

Cheers,

Post by: trappers82 on May 10, 2014, 10:20:59 PM
Hey Magnesium,

Heading out tomorrow, Sunday 11th.
Sorry I thought I edited the original post to include the date.
If you see this in time the book says there is a shelter at the bottom of the picnic ground car park, that's where I'll start from.
It's been many years since I was last at Silvan Res so I'm not 100% sure of the location of said shelter. But, by Google maps it looks as though there are 2 car parks off Stonyford Rd and the second one seems to be more likely to have the shelter, so that's where I'll be.
My mission of the next few months is to make Sunday a ride that I haven't done before, so I'll be picking up that book a lot I think.
I'll keep putting up where I plan to ride each Sunday, and If anyone is keen then awesome.
I'll put a bit more detail in the post next time too :)
Cheers

I rode some of that on the WEST part of Olinda - I rode UP from Ferntree Gully.
I'd be keen to try out the SingleTrack near Silvan (one day) - would be good to hear how it goes.
This is where I rode - mainly forest/doubletrack (the good bits) - and bitumen on Burwood Hwy (boo)

HI Chris,

We were out at Silvan a couple of weeks back, fun, slippery trails, bit of climbing.

No signage on the single tracks, you just have to ride on the fire trails and keep a look out.

We will probably head back up there when it dries out.

Depending on securing a day off work and the weather I'm planning a ride from Cockatoo to Lysterfield and back if anyone is interested let me know.
Cockatoo through Wrights Forrest to Emerald Lake, to Clematis via Puffing Billy trail then via old Equestrian trail (runs parrallel to Wellington rd, some parts are fairly overgrown but rideable).
Last time I only went one way with a lap of Lysty it was about 42? kms. Return would be 60+ with a lap or mid 40s without.
Could start/finish at Emerald and cut out Wrights climb to shorten the kms. Pace will be relaxed. Terrain is easy mix of single and double with a bit of climbing.

Hey mate,

I've got Friday off and plan on riding.  What time are you planning on leaving Cockatoo, I've just moved to Avonsleigh and been meaning to check out all of those trails.

Cheers,

Will

Matt,

The lower part is borderline at the moment but the forecast says the park will get another 7mm tomorrow afternoon so it will probably be quite unpleasant to ride and not too good for the trails.

I'm flexible time wise, I should have all day. If someone wants to help explore I can tailor to suit. Cockatoo to the Lysty entrance on Welly rd is 25kms. Emerald is about 7kms shorter. Plus whatever extra at Lysty, for me a café stop, maybe a short loop 14km if I think I can handle it? Maybe not, then return. The return up Wellington rd will involve a bit of climbing I imagine.
Not sure if this link will work.

Could meet at Emerald if you wanted to ride from Avonsleigh.

Righto, thanks Alf.

Not sure if anyone who lives close by could be bothered running a trail condition thread over winter?  It would enormously help those of us that travel to get there. I suspect also that more real time info on the trails might reduce the number of folk riding when its not suitable, as they wouldn't head out in the first place - nice in theory anyway.

Hey Duane, I've got all morning.  I'm happy to roll down the hill and start in Cockatoo, how about a 7:30 start?  Coming back up that horse trail could be really crap!  I've been trying to scope it out from the car on the way to work and the bits I've seen look pretty overgrown.  If they are; I came back up from Lysty this way last weekend and it's pretty good, a mix of dirt and paved roads. http://www.strava.com/activities/147933673

Did you do the track around the fenceline of the Reservoir or just the road? I used to ride the fenceline track years ago (when I was a lot lighter and fitter  ;) ), last I saw it too looked pretty overgrown, happy enough with dirt roads but I'm shy of tarmac, particularly on my long travel AM bike.
The Wellington rd equestrian trail is quite good between Ryans rd and the Cardinia reservoir before the dam wall, purpose built with bridges and a good surface just mostly upward Emerald bound so an alternative could be good on the way back. After the Dam the equestrian trail is overgrown and little used. Might be a long way for me to squeeze in a 1/2 day, I'm no XC athlete, but happy to try.
7.30 ok by me.

Lysty was great this morning. Looks like the storms will miss it for most of the day

Hug and Blair were almost completely dry, just a puddle or two.

Quite a few puddles on lower and upper buckle, not much bog though.

Well worth hitting it before the storms later this arvo

If you can't make it to the official LDTR social ride at Dry Diggings this weekend - http://ldtr.org/forum/index.php/topic,1641.msg17505.html#msg17505

I'm heading to Smiths Gully (as I cant make it to the official LDTR social day).

Very, very short notice.

Anyone available for a ride tomorrow evening.

When
Roughly the idea is to arrive 5:00pm and start to roll 5:20pm, this on Wednesday 8 Feb

Where
Meeting point 24h car park at Logan Park Rd.

Who to look for
What's my gear? Red i30 Station Wagon and a purple Trek bike.

The plan

Start the typical counterclockwise loop up to commonwealth trail, once descending the commonwealth trail head to Aneyurism via firetrail and then continue clockwise on Middletrail making our way to follow me and then finish the clockwise loop back to the car park.

We will make short stops as required but we need to be mindful of the time as I don't expect to require lights.

Anyone interested just yell out. If no one is interested wish me luck  8)

Cheers Daz.

07:30 on a Saturday morning is a bit much for me in the Winter. Too hard to get out of bed!

Smiths Gully ride - Sunday 17th Dec. 8am at Smiths Gully general store.

This isn't an official LDTR ride.

Expect to do 30 to 35 kms. Not overly technical but medium fitness is needed.
